‘NEW ROMANCE: 1984’ the new album from Alien Skin – the ‘Send Me An Angel’ time traveler.
He said NO to the Australian guitar rock industry in the early ’80s.
Stonewalled and derided he refused to give in or conform, performing British inspired electro-pop while the rest of his country caught up.Today Alien Skin continues his love of what got him so disliked decades ago.
New Romance: 1984is an album of tracks produced in 2020 that were written and performed in the clubs of Melbourne in the early years of the ’80s.
On this album are the analogue songs you would have heard in the underground city venues of 1984.
New Romance: 1984 is released by Russian premier synthpop, new wave, electronic label ScentAir Records and available on CD and download format.
In 1981 Australia, George Pappas, later to become Alien Skin, stood almost alone as an electro-pop artist. Not one to yield to the derogatory attitude of its deep-seated ’70s rock culture towards electronic music, he continued in electro bands. He went on to become the long-time keyboardist and co-songwriter with chart topping Australian synth-new wave band, Real Life. The band’s multi-million selling ’80s smash “Send Me An Angel” first hit No.1 in Germany and around the world.
After recording a number of albums and touring the world with Real Life, including highlights such as sharing a stage with ’80s icons OMD and Berlin (“Take My Breath Away”) at Synthstock2000 (US), Alien Skin was formed. Alien Skin’s highly sought after debut album “Don’t Open Till Doomsday” was released in 2008 on the ‘A Different Drum’ label.
Now with his 11th album ‘NEW ROMANCE: 1984’Alien Skin returns to his synth origins, releasing new music to a passionate audience of retro-electropop lovers.
